Meeting of directors general and international of the territorial chambers at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Madrid
Madrid, 28/06/2023. - Within the framework of the meeting of general directors and international directors of the Spanish Chambers of Commerce, Pilar Ruiz Huélamo, director of the Delegation of the Spain Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (EU), presented the specific Action and Training Plan that aims to strengthen the participation of the territorial chambers of commerce in the EU.
This Plan is structured around three priority axes:
- AXIS 1: focuses on the transfer of knowledge with the aim of providing territorial chambers with relevant, up-to-date information and generating strategic alliances. Actions include training seminars, the "Infoflash" newsletter and the launch of the Delegation's website (https://delegacionue.camara.es) and LinkedIn.
- AXIS 2: focuses on institutional relations, with the aim of promoting dialogue and collaboration with European institutions. To this end, the organisation of missions to Brussels and active participation in relevant European forums are envisaged. This strategy will enable the chambers to influence decision-making and contribute to the design of European policies.
- AXIS 3: focuses on the presence in forums, where the chambers will be able to make their perspectives and proposals known. The aim is to encourage participation in European events and conferences related to business and trade.
In addition, during his speech, Ruiz Huélamo mentioned the latest European developments, highlighting the four priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.
- Priority 1: reindustrialisation and guaranteeing the continent's strategic autonomy. There are plans to conclude pending trade agreements with countries such as Chile, Mexico and Indonesia, as well as to reactivate pending trade dossiers, as in the case of Mercosur. In addition, the strengthening of supply chains will be promoted through the holding of summits, such as the EU-CELAC and Euro-Mediterranean summits.
- Priority 2: Promoting greater social and economic justice in Europe. This will be achieved through common EU corporate taxation floors and the adoption of a new own resources package, including measures such as the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), the Carbon Capping Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and a profit-based own resource for companies.
- Priority 3: Advancing green transition and environmental adaptation. Electricity market reform will be pushed forward to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and the legislative dossiers of the Fit for 55 package, including the Gas and Hydrogen package and energy efficiency regulations, will be expedited. In addition, measures for the reduction of waste and microplastics as well as the generation of green fuels will be implemented.
- Priority 4: Strengthening European unity, through a series of initiatives such as the vote in September on the Single Market Emergency Instrument (SMEI), the completion of the banking union and the capital markets union, and promoting more effective and coordinated management of migration and asylum processes. In addition, coordinated support will be provided to Ukraine and other neighbouring states, such as Moldova and the Western Balkan countries to strengthen relations with countries close to the EU.
